Jan Balvan

Jan Balvan

Assistant professor at Masaryk University

Current research

Jan is focusing on cancer cell biology, especially on cell death, autophagy and intercellular communication (extracellular vesicles).

What do you find the most fascinating about your research?

The biggest benefit for me is knowing that what I’m seeing is the first time I’m seeing it, that maybe no one has seen it before. It’s like fishing in a river where no one has fished before.

What do you see as a problem in live-cell research?

Preparation of high quality samples.

Could you describe your experience using Q-Phase?

The biggest advantages of using Q-PHASE include relatively robust data recruitment, automation of the acquisition process, combination of fluorescence and QPI, and high resolution.

Future research plans?

In the future, I would like to further investigate the relationship between the components of the autophagic cascade and the initiation of pro-inflammatory signaling.
